- Direct your mind
We cannot stop thinking, as our minds job is to think. So direct your mind to some fruitful things, make a list of what you have to do in a day. When you give your mind certain direction it will work on that and if your mind is not well directed surely it will do to unnecessary chatter as it is a easiest way to keep you busy, as we say ‘khali dimag shaitan ka ghar hota hai’.
- Be in present
We should be in a moment, whatever we are doing even the smallest thing like brushing your teeth, washing your face or anything, keep your mind in it. Avoid multitasking, I know we think it’s a good thing but no, while brushing you think about taking bath, while bathing you think about coffee, while have coffee you don’t enjoy it you think you getting late, while driving you think about your work…stop there give it a break and enjoy what you are doing. This will train your mind to be in present you will not think about past or future, what has happened or what will happen. And you will be able to see the difference, you will notice every single details and beauty of everything which you have missed.
- Bring your mind back
I know it’s easy to get carried away with your overthinking and its ok to go off track sometimes but as you realized bring your mind back to what you are doing. Don’t let your mind swim in that only, get out as soon as you can keep busy.
Remember when you are going to change something it will take time your mind will interfere the process but have faith and control on yourself that you are able to come out of it.
- Physical exercise
Oh yes moving your body will definitely help you in solving your overthinking.
It’s been said that exercise utilizes and burn excess hormones that are also require for racing thoughts. Exercise should be done in the morning or in the evening when you are back from office and have so much to think about. So go to the gym or jog, it will helps to calm your mind and you will be relaxed after long day.
Also physical activity will increase endorphins levels in body which helps in feeling happy and after exercise you will also be able to get good night sleep which is always necessary no matter what. So exercise for about 30-45 mins daily and see the changes yourself.
- Listen to music or watch your favorite TV shows
These are the best thing to do and we all love to do it. So go on hear something nice something positive, devotional songs helps too if you like them. Don’t go for sad songs even if you like them. Listening to music makes you calm and you can be more focused.
Watching something soothing or feel good or comedy can divert your mind from your chatter. But yes don’t overdo it, as more screen time can lead to more issues.
- Try mediation
Best known way for overthinking. Sit for 5-10mins and try to meditate, look into your thoughts but get with them just observe and let them go. I know it will not happen in day or two but give it a shot.
You can start with some breathwork. Controlling your breath has ability to still your mind. Various meditations revolve around breathing exercises only. Doing breath work at initial stage can help entering meditation.
You can meditate with music lots of available there, you can meditate in group which will not allow you to distract, and you can do chanting. If you are meditating at home make your space 1st there should not be any disturbances. Try to do it in early morning when noises are very less.
- Don’t give much importance to problems
If you give importance to your problem you will never find way out, you will just get trapped in problem. Rather focus on solution, what can you do next to avoid such problems. If you think much about your problems you will get drowned with them and yehhh you will definitely overthink so don’t give damn.
- Write your feelings/thoughts/ fears
Write your fears, what are you thinking, what are feeling. Yes write them down, give time for writing it helps a lot to get rid of your chatter. You will feel light.
- Talk to someone who listens to you, understands you.
Yes share your thoughts with someone you trust, it will helps to get rid of your burden. But yeeh the person you choose should be optimistic, real, good listener who will save you from drowning and not the one who will add the burden.
- Be grateful for everything you have
When you go to bed write down or think about the things you are grateful for. It will give brain positivity and you will not go after what you don’t have. Being grateful emits positivity which will help to get rid of mind blabbering. Your thoughts will become positive and next day you will wake up with same positivity.
