The OnePlus Android 17 schedule now has exact dates: the OnePlus 12 on 17 November, the OnePlus Open on 24 November, and the Nord 6 and Nord CE 6 on 26 November. If you own a OnePlus, this update does more than usual, because it moves your phone from OxygenOS to ColorOS 17.
Should you tap install on day one? We’d wait on one group of phones, and the reason is in section 4.
⚡ Key takeaways
- OPPO’s ColorOS account shared the dates: OnePlus 13R on 5 Nov, OnePlus 12 on 17 Nov, Pad 3 on 18 Nov, Open on 24 Nov, Nord 6 and CE 6 on 26 Nov.
- December brings the OnePlus 12R, 11, Nord 5 and others, with no exact dates yet.
- The dates mark the start of distribution, so your phone may get it later, in batches.
- A July report says the switch isn’t mandatory and rollback is possible, but OnePlus hasn’t confirmed which versions can roll back.
- Back up first. If this is your only phone for work and UPI, give it a week or two.
The OnePlus Android 17 Dates, Phone by Phone
Android Authority reports that these dates come from a ColorOS 17 calendar OPPO shared on X through its global ColorOS account. The earlier list, reported by 9to5Google in October, only gave months for many of these phones.
| Phone or tablet | Android 17 (ColorOS 17) starts |
|---|---|
| OnePlus 15, Pad 4 | 29 October schedule (India began earlier) |
| OnePlus 15R, 13, 13s | 30 October schedule |
| OnePlus 13R | 5 November |
| OnePlus 12 | 17 November |
| OnePlus Pad 3 | 18 November |
| OnePlus Open | 24 November |
| OnePlus Nord 6, Nord CE 6 | 26 November |
| OnePlus 12R, 11, Nord 5, Nord CE6 Lite, Nord CE5, Pad 2, Pad Go 2 | December, no exact dates |
| OnePlus Nord 4, N6 series, Pad Lite | January to March 2027 |

Two caveats. These aren’t India-specific dates, since Android Authority’s report doesn’t mention India. And India has been ahead so far: TalkAndroid says the stable update reached the OnePlus 15 and Pad 4 from 23 October, starting in India, about a week before the listed date.
What Actually Changes When OxygenOS Goes
OnePlus announced in July that it would retire OxygenOS, and Android 17 is where that happens. TalkAndroid describes it as a full system switch rather than a routine update.
In daily use, you may notice less than the headline suggests. OnePlus adopted OPPO’s software styling years ago, and 9to5Google says the two are hard to tell apart.
Android Police lists what’s new:
- Design: a glassier look with animations that its writer found bouncy, though less clean than Pixel UI.
- Performance claims: Oppo says up to 30% lower rendering load and up to 25% less RAM use. Those are the company’s numbers, so wait for independent tests before believing them.
- AI: an Agent Mode that can search, organise and rename files on the phone, and an AI Photo Agent for editing by conversation.
- A gap: no home-screen app bubbles like Pixel UI, just Floating Windows.
Is OnePlus leaving India? No sign of that. The company’s exit is from Europe and North America. Mobigyaan reported in July that OnePlus called India one of its most important markets, with service now tied into OPPO’s network of 600-plus centres and existing warranties continuing.

Mobigyaan’s July report said the move “will not be mandatory”, so eligible users could stay on OxygenOS for now. It also said people who switch could reportedly return later.
Don’t lean too heavily on that yet. TalkAndroid says OnePlus hasn’t confirmed which versions support rollback, and the July report came before the rollout started.
⚠️ Watch out
A rollback usually wipes your data, and that’s general Android behaviour rather than something OnePlus has spelled out here. Assume you’d need a full backup to go back, and read OnePlus’s own rollback note on its community pages before relying on it.
What about staying on OxygenOS long term? We can’t tell you how long security patches will last on the old version, because we haven’t found a clear statement. If security matters to you, and it should, plan on moving eventually.
Who Should Update Now and Who Should Wait
Here’s my honest take: this is a bigger jump than a normal monthly patch, so there’s no prize for being first.
| Your situation | What I’d do |
|---|---|
| Second phone or spare device | Update on day one and explore |
| OnePlus 15, 13 series, already offered | Fine to update now, since early reports are out there |
| OnePlus 12, Open, Nord 6 and it’s your only phone | Wait a week or two, then read owner reports |
| Banking, UPI and work all on this phone | Wait, and don’t update the night before travel |
| OnePlus 12R or Nord 5 | Nothing to do yet, December at the earliest |
The catch is the “only phone” group. With a full system switch, the phone you depend on for OTPs is the worst one to test with. Bugs that show up in the first week often get patched soon after, so a short wait costs you very little.
Diwali is also a poor week to find out your banking app doesn’t like the new build. If you’re buying a phone in the sale right now, our buy now or wait guide is the better read.

4 Checks Before You Tap Update
TalkAndroid gives the basics: back up and use Wi-Fi. I’d add the rest from common sense.
- Back up properly. Move photos to the cloud or a laptop, and back up WhatsApp too. If storage is tight, clear Google Photos space first. Our WhatsApp transfer guide explains how backups work.
- Note down your logins. Banking apps and passkeys sometimes ask you to sign in again after a big update. Keep your passwords reachable.
- Charge up and find Wi-Fi. Don’t burn your Jio or Airtel data on a system update, and don’t start at 10% battery.
- Check the path. Go to Settings → System & Updates → Software update. If nothing’s there, your batch hasn’t arrived. Waiting is normal.
💡 Pro tip
Don’t sideload an update file from a Telegram group to get it early. Updates arrive in batches by model and region anyway, and a random file from a stranger isn’t worth saving a week.

✅ Our verdict
Take ColorOS 17 when it comes, because that’s where your updates are heading. But if it’s your only phone, wait a week or two after your date and check what owners of your model report. The name on the software changes more than your daily routine probably will.
- OnePlus 13R owners: your date is here, so check for it, but don’t panic if it hasn’t arrived.
- OnePlus 12 and Open owners: you’ve got time to back up properly this month.
- OnePlus 13T owners: TalkAndroid notes your phone is on the eligibility list but missing from the schedule, so keep watching.
- Older phones outside the plan: they get “version maintenance support”, with details to come.
Frequently Asked Questions
When will my OnePlus 12 get Android 17?
The published calendar says 17 November. That’s when distribution starts, so yours may arrive later in a batch, and the report doesn’t confirm India timing specifically.
Is OxygenOS gone from OnePlus phones?
Android 17 on these phones is ColorOS 17, and OnePlus has said it’s retiring OxygenOS. Your current OxygenOS version keeps working until you update.
Is the OnePlus Android 17 update mandatory?
A July report said it isn’t mandatory, and that rollback would reportedly be possible. Check OnePlus’s latest notes for your model, since the supported rollback versions haven’t been confirmed.
Is OnePlus shutting down in India?
No. Its exit announcement covers Europe and North America, and reports say India operations, warranty and service continue.
How do I check for the update?
Open Settings, then System & Updates, then Software update. Use Wi-Fi and keep the phone charged.
The Bottom Line
The dates give OnePlus owners something to plan around at last. Find your phone in the table, back up this weekend, and take the update once owners of your model have tried it. Next, make sure your backup actually works, because that’s the step everybody skips.
